The mission of Preservation Oklahoma is to preserve the places where Oklahoma history lives.
We believe communities are enriched when we connect history to our present and future.
We address this mission by:
Publishing Preservation Oklahoma News, a joint newsletter with the State Historic Preservation Office. This quarterly newsletter provides information on important issues impacting the preservation community.
Acting as the steward to the Henry and Anna Overholser Mansion, Oklahoma City’s first mansion that was built in 1903.
Conducting workshops and lectures that inform the public about important conservation and preservation issues. These include workshops on topics such as Route 66 Resources, Preservation, and Tombstone Conservation.
Publishing an annual list of Oklahoma’s Most Endangered Historic Places. Preservation Oklahoma has recognized historic sites across the state at risk of demolition or deterioration, raising awareness of the need to protect Oklahoma’s historic resources. This awareness has resulted in the preservation of several historic structures, including the Mayo Hotel in Tulsa, the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City, and the Saline Courthouse.
